My Creativity / My Interests and Independent Living Skills

The My Creativity/My Interests and Independent Living Skills framework is split into 3 focused strands which aim to give pupils the opportunity to develop:

Creative Skills
This area of the curriculum provides opportunities to experience creative, sensory, imaginative and practical activities using a wide range of materials. Pupils will safely use and explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques, experimenting with colour, design, texture, form and function. We want to give pupils the opportunity to understand their world by responding to first-hand experiences through music, movement, storytelling and performing and ensure pupils have access to different cultures and traditions to develop understanding and respect. Pupils will develop visual and tactile sensitivity and find satisfaction through the use of their senses.
Technology
Pupils will develop positive responses to a broad range of IT activities and experience them in a wide range of settings. They will develop skills to enable them to access IT and to be safe. We will ensure that pupils realise the importance of staying safe in a digital society and recognise the dangers. We will encourage the pupils to think for themselves and develop self-motivation and discipline. Pupils will engage in the learning of new skills, ideas, concepts, attitudes and feelings through the exploration of different materials and technical processes.
Skills for school and workplace
Opportunities here are given to the pupils to develop their citizenship skills and to feel part of a valued team. They will learn the importance of work and how to support others. We will then ensure pupils use these skills to complement and extend other areas of learning. They will learn how to complete domestic tasks such as washing, ironing and shopping to support them in their next stage of life. My
My Creativity/My Interests and Independent Living provides every pupil with the opportunity to be inspired by the arts and achieve success through art and creativity. Pupils will learn about the work of artists from a young age and become independent in revisiting and applying a range of art skills and processes learnt over time. Pupils will also explore the limits of their creativity by ‘having a go’ and embrace their mistakes as a great learning opportunity.

At KS4 and KS5, the area of My Creativity develops into My Interests and Independent Living Skills, where pupils will continue to build upon their life skills and become independent young people.
