What does Drawing and Talking look like at Stone Bay?
In a safe and quiet environment on a 1-1 basis the young person will complete 12 sessions over 12 weeks.
The child will be encouraged to take the lead with their drawings. Drawing enables a child to express in a visual form any
overwhelming events, worries, preoccupations from deep in the unconscious mind. Whereas at a conscious level the child may not know ‘What is wrong.’ Drawing enables symbolic and safe expression switching between reality and dreams.
Over time through talking gently and in a supportive fun way it will create a secure attachment with the child and their imagination will begin to unfold. Through the Drawing and Talking process a child can heal and create a different ending to their visual story. Once coming to the end of the Drawing and Talking therapy sessions it's important for them to get back a sense of power in their lives and build their self-esteem.
