Understanding my World
Stone Bay School holds the utmost value for each individual pupil. Our curriculum is designed to be inclusive and accessible, providing pupils with a comprehensive range of knowledge. We empower pupils to take responsibility, develop an understanding, and acquire essential skills that will enable them to make decisions with confidence, self-esteem, and independence.
The Understanding My World curriculum area caters to pupils across the school, fostering a sense of community and belonging. It equips them with the tools to build positive relationships and navigate the complexities of life. By learning how to manage risks and challenges, pupils gain the knowledge and confidence to seek help when necessary.
Our comprehensive approach within the Understanding My World/Exploring the World of Work subject prepares pupils with lifelong skills that will enable them to actively participate in the wider community and function as responsible adults. These skills encompass personal development, financial literacy, employability, personal care, and well-being.
The subject is structured into three distinct strands:
- People and Communities Skills: Students embark on community exploration, gaining insights into diverse cultures, identifying sources of assistance, and delving into British Values.
- Citizenship Skills: The emphasis on “active citizenship” instils teamwork, empathy, and practical action through the application of citizenship knowledge and understanding.
- Community Participation Skills: Students acquire practical knowledge on road safety, public transportation, traffic regulations, caring for the environment, and other essential skills for becoming a responsible citizen.
