Understanding my World / Exploring the World of Work

The Understanding My World/Exploring the World of Work Framework is split into 3 focused strands which aim to give pupils the opportunity to develop:

People and Community Skills

Students embark on community exploration, gaining insights into diverse cultures, identifying sources of assistance, and delving into British Values.

Citizenship Skills

The emphasis on “active citizenship” instils teamwork, empathy, and practical action through the application of citizenship knowledge and understanding.

Community Participation Skills

Students acquire practical knowledge of road safety, public transportation, traffic regulations, caring for the environment, and other essential skills for becoming a responsible citizen.

Plenty of opportunity to find out about pupils' likes, motivators and special interests. Setting challenges for practising transitions even if they are only small to begin with. We dream big! Opportunities to use the community in a variety of ways and according to individual pupil need, eg. for shopping, walks in the park, visiting places of interest, work experience, volunteering opportunities, joining community groups, DofE Learning about safe and unsafe and how we can find help. Getting to know people that can help us and beginning to learn what we can do in an emergency. Practising the different ways of being an 'active citizen', having opportunities to help others and work as a team.	Pupils and adults talking about children's rights. Pupils helping each other and working together to achieve a goal. A multi-modal approach to learning - practical activities, outdoor learning, using technology, community inclusion and many more. Pupils are seen out and about! Images and visual models for local places and places around the world. People who can help us visit the school and get to know us.	Understanding My World encourages and supports our pupils to explore the world they live in. We celebrate special days, take part in charity events and join the community for everyday activities and tasks as well as for special occasions. We want pupils to experience different cultures and beliefs, a variety of traditions, celebrations and festivals. We want our pupils to take an active part in their wider community. Understanding My World teaches our pupils to celebrate similarities as well as the differences between themselves and others.
